To support students and teachers stuck at home during this pandemic, North Star has reduced the price by 50% for the next 30 days. As a premium edition, Academic organizations can enjoy a further discount of up to 50% when ordering 20 or more copies (for a total of 75% off).
Chosen by the leading scientific journal Nature Magazine as the best example of natural selection in a game, Evolution brings Darwin’s theories to life in a strategy game both educational and entertaining. Designed for students age 12 and above, Evolution’s learn-while-playing tutorial makes it easy to pick up.
In Evolution, students adapt species to survive in a changing ecosystem. Counter scarce food by growing a long neck to access sustenance in the trees above. Fend off predators by adapting a hard shell. Added traits realistically affect ecosystems in ways that mirror the natural world. For example, overabundant plant food leads to overpopulation, which then draws myriad carnivores, which thins the herd and forces other species to develop new defenses.
Explore the mysterious creatures of Evolution Island’s 21 different ecosystems, each with their own ecology. A new challenge arrives every week to test a student’s skill at adapting. At the end of each game, view beautiful drawings of one of the creatures created. In addition to the feature-rich single-player, students can play together with either pass and play or online multiplayer modes.
Evolution: Education Edition has a number of changes from the original Evolution Board Game. Trait tips provide real-life, natural examples of in-game traits. Easy account switching allows classes of students to play on the same machine. Easily find matches with cross-platform online play compatible with all versions of Evolution, and the removal of online chat protects students. Families can use Family Sharing to make sure everyone joins in the fun.
Listen to these Biology Teachers using Evolution in the classroom:
“Evolution features sophisticated biology. Traits can be put together in a dizzying array of combinations. The Theme of Evolution is not just tacked on: it drives play,” Stuart West, professor of Evolutionary Biology at Oxford
“I am a science teacher. When I showed them the Evolution video game they flipped out! You won over my class!” – ThorTiberius, Educator
“The digital game is beautiful and is the best adaptation of a tabletop game I’ve seen. The theme of evolving and adaptations is portrayed accurately and in an engaging way, which is no small feat from my experience as a biology teacher,” Jeannette Gerry, Biology Teacher

About North Star Digital Studios
North Star Digital Studios is a digital board game development house based in Kensington, MD. Founded in 2014 by Scott Rencher and Dominic Crapuchettes, the studio is devoted to adapting North Star board games into digital versions that capture the heart of the originals while taking full advantage of what video games have to offer.
This looks like a great idea. If you can make the learning fun, like in a game, kids pick it up much easier.
