Have you watched FLCL? If so then you probably know it’s a good story. Here are my thoughts on the two sequel series: Progressive and Alternative. Keep reading to find out more.
FLCL: Progressive and Alternative – Funko POP! /Blu-ray Combo Pack
In FLCL we are introduced to Naota a young kid who was forced to grow up too fast. He meets an alien named Haruko who runs him over with her Vespa. Naota has to come to terms with his lost youth in order to become a well-adjusted adult. It’s a great story, but now fast forward like 20 years and you find two sequel series. These are called Progressive and Alternative. I love that you can get both of these in one Blu-ray combo pack! I was lucky to have received both the Blu-ray combo pack and a Haruko Funko POP!
Let’s talk a little about each of the discs in this FLCL: Progressive and Alternative Blu-ray combo pack. In Progressive, we meet a teenage girl named Hidomi. Haruko is back and has now become a teacher at Hidomi’s school. Progressive offers plenty of heart and frantic action, along with some comedy, while offering new surprises.
In Alternative once again we focus on the transition from child to young adult. In this story we learn about the lengths a girl named Kana will go through to delay life’s planned course. While it may sound similar the difference here, however, is that this time we also are presented a tale of youthful romance, bonding, climate change, and a Minotaur robot in a Basketball uniform battling an alien agent on the courts. It sounds weird I know, but trust me it’s also a great story.
In my opinion, both Progressive and Alternative are great additions to the FLCL legacy. While neither of them can beat the original they are each great stories none the less. And honestly, there aren’t that many times when sequels are better than the first. FLCL fans won’t be disappointed with this combo pack!

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2001 original FLCL, FLCL: Progressive tells the story of 14-year-old Hidomi and her classmate, Ide, as the war between Medical Mechanica and Fraternity continues. Now in the form of their teacher, Haruko Haruhara returns alongside another otherworldly being, Jinyu, a gorgeous Chrysler Bel Aire and her yellow Vespa to unleash their hidden potential.
FLCL: Alternative, the third and final season centers on the misadventures of 17-year-old Kana and her friends, Mossan, Hijiri and Pets. Living a seemingly normal life, the group’s lives are flipped upside down when Mecha falls from the sky and arrives with the guitar-wielding Haruko Haruhara. Once again determined to take out Medical Mechanica, Haruko works to awaken Kana’s N.O. channel before the relentless iron takes over the world.
“During its twelve-week run on Adult Swim’s Toonami, FLCL was #1 in its timeslot, and garnered a huge fan following,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, WBHE, Senior Vice President, Originals, Animation and Family. “We think both the fans and newcomers are going to love the Combo Pack with it exciting behind the scenes extra content, in addition to the final 12 highly anticipated episodes from the fanatical series.”

I honestly hadn’t heard of this series. It sounds interesting, though. I’ll have to go back and watch the original.
The sequel sounds exciting! I am sure my grandchildren will love it! Thanks for the post!
