I am a huge Joanne Gaines fan. So when I heard that she has a new book: We Are the Gardeners releasing March 26 I couldn’t wait to read it. Keep reading to see what it’s about and our thoughts on it.
We Are the Gardeners by Joanna Gaines ~ Book Review
I became a fan of Joanna and her family from the show Fixer Upper. I still don’t miss an episode (thank goodness for my DVR). Children books are a favorite in our home, so I was excited to find out that Joanna’s new book We Are the Gardeners is great for kids.
This book is filled with page after page of beautiful illustrations. The vibrant colors, and the realness of each scene are really great! But what I liked most of this book is the story, it has a way of making you think how amazing life really is. This story is about how gardening can help teach some great values in life. Values such as being dependable, reliable, and consistent.
In this book kids can learn about being creative, innovative, and compassionate. Kids will see how gardening can help them be innovative, creative, and compassionate. Most of all it shows how we can enjoy the fruits of our labor as we harvest.
This is an absolutely great book, especially for the younger kinds. We Are the Gardeners is written in a way that young children can relate with. This book really exceeded my expectations.
You can get We Are the Gardeners on March 26th. Pre-order it today on Amazon.
About the Book
In We Are the Gardeners, Joanna and her kids chronicle the adventures of starting their own family garden. From their failed endeavors, obstacles to overcome (like bunnies that eat everything!), and all the knowledge they’ve gained along the way, the Gaines family shares how they learned to grow a happy, successful garden.
“The garden has always been a place that inspires me. There’s something about digging deep into fresh soil or watching new life burst from what was not long ago just a tiny seed that reinforces what a gift life is,” said Joanna. “I think that’s part of why my kids have come to love spending time in the garden just as much as I do. It can be a great teacher, if we pause long enough to notice all there is to learn. Where every day can be a lesson in hard work, and sometimes even in failure, but where there’s also growth worth celebrating. This book is our way of sharing what the garden means to us, and the many adventures we’ve had along the way!”
Children and their families will be able to start their own gardens, learn how to take care of plants, and enjoy the fruits of their labors together. As it turns out, trying something new isn’t always easy, but the hardest work often yields the greatest reward—there are always new lessons waiting to be learned in the garden!
Julianna Swaney’s illustrations bring the Gaines’s family garden to life with colorful, whimsical watercolors in We Are the Gardeners, inviting readers to enjoy the beauty a thriving garden provides.

I liked her show, too. I hear there’s a new one coming. The book would be great for kids.
I’d love to share this book with my niece, Elizabeth. She’s 7 now, and is super curious about gardening (she’s going to help us plant our garden this year). This would make a nice gift in return for her help.
This would definitely make a nice gift. 🙂
This sounds like a charming book! I love gardening, so this really appeals to me.
This sounds like an amazing book, I will definitely be getting it! I love gardening too, I grew up with a big one that I always helped my dad maintain. We grew all of our own veggies, herbs, and even fruit! I hope to have my own again soon when we move into our first home. Thank you so much for your review!
I just love Joanna and Chip Gaines. She has such a wonderful talent. I can’t wait to get this book. Thank you so much for sharing
I love free-reign and being creative. This would be a great summer read.
