Many of you know that I have a weakness for sweet things. Dulce de Leche is definitely a favorite of mine. Keep reading to see my thoughts on these La Dorita Dulce de Leche Cookbook & products.

La Dorita Dulce de Leche Cookbook & Products Review

I can still remember my first encounter with Dulce de leche. I was 6 years old and my grandmother’s friend had come over for a visit. She had just returned from her native Argentina. She brought back a beautiful handbag for my grandmother and a jar of Dulce de leche for my mom and me. It was the most delicious thing I had ever tried. It made (as I’m sure you can tell) quite an impression on me.

In case you’re not familiar with it, Dulce de leche is an absolutely delicious milk caramel spread. Yup, you read that right. It’s milk that has been preserved with sugar. You can read more about what it is here. Through the years I have tried many different types of Dulce de leche. Some were really delicious, most were good, but none could match that creaminess and flavor I remember.

Recently I received an email from La Dorita asking if I would be interested in trying some of their signature Dulce de leche, and taking a look at their specialty cookbook. Hmmm a cookbook and Dulce de leche (this was right up my alley), I couldn’t refuse. Let me show you the goodies I received.

I’m going to start by telling you about the two delicious La Dorita Dulce de leche jars I received.

One is traditional flavor and one is made with dark chocolate. I started by trying out the original first. The minute I opened the jar I saw a very familiar creaminess. I took a teaspoon and dipped in. One taste and I was immediately taken back to that day when I was 6. I had finally found the melt in your mouth consistency and that delicious flavor that I had been searching for. It was absolutely exquisite!

Like I mentioned the second jar was made with dark chocolate. This one was also absolutely delicious. It pairs perfectly with sliced apples, or on top of warm pancakes like my boys like it. However my absolute favorite is definitely the traditional one.

There are so many great uses for Dulce de leche (my favorite is right out of the jar by the spoonful). You can use it in both sweet and savory recipes such as Dark Chocolate Banana Bread or Peach Pizzas with Mascarpone Cheese.

The next goodie I received was this bottle of La Dorita Dulce de leche liqueur.

While I haven’t had a chance to try it, my husband has and he says it’s great. He says it has a nice smooth flavor. He’s had it both as a straight shot and in coffee and likes it both ways.

Last but certainly not least I received the cookbook Dulce de Leche: Recipes, Stories & Sweet Traditions.

I love cookbooks that are much more than just a bunch of recipes. This one is exactly that! It has a mixture of great recipes, including one to make my own Dulce de leche from scratch. This book also includes stories of the author’s childhood and grandmother. I have already made a list of recipes that I can’t wait to try.

The pages of this book are high quality and thick. I really like it! There is one thing I would change however… I would have liked it even more if it contained photos of the recipes. Other than that this is an exceptional cookbook!
