It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. My youngest who is now in middle school kept reminding us all summer that at his age his brothers got their cell phones. I had my previous cellphone still so when we received the SIM card from TextNow we just had to install it and set it up. Which was very easy, my son is now a very happy boy with a device that has great coverage.

Let me tell you a little about it. TextNow is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). That’s just a fancy way of saying that it offers phone service using another carrier’s network. Doing this allows TextNow to cut costs significantly, and offer its customers, a free cell phone plan. The company makes money off its free plan by displaying ads to its customers.
To get started with the free plan you do have to have an unlocked Android or iPhone cellphone. And purchase a very inexpensive activation kit for only $0.99. This is an ad-supported free phone service.
TextNow does have flexible add-ons, like for example if you’re not into ads remove them for only $9.99 a month. Another add-on lets you choose between 1-5GB of high-speed data to supplement your free nationwide talk and text. Data add-ons also let you speak freely beyond borders with free roaming in Canada and Mexico. Those plans are between $8.99 – $27.99 a month. Also if you use all of your high-speed data, they provide unlimited 2G data until your next billing cycle. You can also choose to bring your phone number or get a new one.
