Bokksu ~ April’s Blossoming Spring Box Unboxing
Today I am sharing something that is new to me. I had never tried Japanese snacks before, have you tried any? Recently I heard about a monthly subscription box called Bokksu. They are the only gourmet snack boxed sourced and curated directly from Japan. I was super excited when they reached out to see if I would like to unbox their April box for you. I know how much you (and I) love unboxings so I had to agree.
Bokksu is dedicated to exploring Japanese Culture through snacks, and is the only gourmet snack boxed sourced and curated directly from Japan. The Classic Bokksu comes with 20-25 Japanese snacks & tea pairing curated around a fun theme. A tasting guide that explains each product’s story and flavors. Free shipping worldwide, and the option to pause or cancel your membership anytime.
I received a complimentary Classic Bokksu April Box, and the snack theme for April was “Blossoming Spring”. When it arrived I immediately opened it up to see what was inside. After going through and trying out all the snacks in this box, I loved how many of the snacks I enjoyed. Even one of my boys who has really picky tastes enjoyed many of them. As for the overall experience, I was extremely impressed. The curation and packaging of every aspect of this monthly subscription box is beautifully executed! I received 11 different snacks, and 21 total items in this box.
Let me show you the snacks I received.
Inside there was a thank you note from founder Danny Taing, a tasting & cultural guide, and lots of snacks. April’s box highlights springtime flavors like strawberry and Japanese plum. I had never tried Japanese snacks before so the tasting & cultural guide came in really handy. I really like that in this guide they explicitly call out common allergens that each snack contains.
Ume Sablé
This is a biscuit-type cookie, flavored with Ume (plum blossom). Honestly I didn’t detect much floral flavor in it. What I did like is that it wasn’t overly sweet.
Sakura Rusk
This rusk is a delicious baguette slice is twice baked in the oven with sakura butter. It’s flavored with salted sakura petals, which give it a faint floral flavor. The flavor it has was nothing like I expected, yet it was absolutely delicious.
Sakura Shrimp Kakimochi
This snack has a crunchy consistency. Flavored with shrimp I was unsure of what to expect flavor wise. I am glad that is isn’t overly fishy, and my hubby really enjoyed it.
Suppa Mucho Sour Plum
This is a yummy potato sticks snack that have a sweet flavoring to them! While the description says they are salty, sour and sweet all in one. I found them to be more sweet than anything. This snack is dusted with sour plum sprinklings and are really amazing. I am totally in love with them!
White Strawberry
This was one of the snacks that I was looking forward to the most! It’s a freeze-dried strawberry so it’s really light and crunchy. To make it even better it’s been infused with white chocolate, so it also has a textured sweetness to it. This snack definitely exceeded my expectations, I love it!
Spring Rice Crackers
When I first looked at the package I thought this variety of rice crackers were all one flavor, just with different colors and shapes for fun. Reading the description I found out they all have their own unique flavor! The variety includes sour plum, matcha, shrimp, purple sweet potato, turmeric, salt, chili pepper, and soy sauce. These are not sweet at all, despite the pastel colors and springy shapes. Truly a good savory snack!
Baked Chocolate Strawberry
This treat was the second snack that I was looking forward to try! I like that it has a cookie like consistency. It’s crumbly, and its flavor is sort of a white chocolate-strawberry combo. For those like me that like strawberries, this will taste like a little bit of heaven.
Sakura Chocolate Crepe
This snack sounded so appealing to me, and after unwrapping it I couldn’t wait to try it. It has an inviting rose color to it, and its flavor and consistency were light. This is like a chocolate-covered wafer, but more like white chocolate with a hint of strawberry. Very delicious!
Hand-baked Butter Senbei
This is a buttery cookie-cracker type thing and it’s meant to be paired with this month’s tea. It is truly delicious and has a really neutral flavor. I really enjoyed it, both with and without the tea!
Pocky Double Strawberry (Classic Bokksu Exclusive)
These Pocky sticks have an awesome creamy strawberry sweetness on them. OMG these are amazing! They look like pink little corn dogs, because they are loaded with icing. It only took one of these sticks to satisfy my sweet tooth. In the box there are 3 packages of 4 sticks.
Sakura Love Tea
This month’s tea had a nice distinct berry scent as I brewed it. I loved that its cherry flavor is light, and I really enjoyed it as my evening tea.
