Monopoly MEGA Edition ~ Family Game Series #1
We hold weekly game nights at our home. But it’s during the summer that we really get to enjoy all our great games. That’s why I put together all our favorite games. We will be bringing them to you in a series of posts featuring each of them and letting you know why we enjoy them.
Here is the first post in the series, this is our ultimate favorite this season:
Monopoly : The MEGA Edition
This game has everything you need to play just like the original game, but it has a few changes.
Let’s talk about the game board!
For starters the game board is bigger! After all they don’t call this the MEGA Edition for nothing. On the game board you will find 12 new spaces, each of the color sections has 1 new property space. Plus there are new spaces too, like Bus Ticket spaces.
The Banker’s Tray
On the banker’s tray you will find a space for the new $1,000 bill, as well as spaces for the rest of the monopoly money, houses, hotels, etc.
You still have the Chance & Community Chest Cards, however in this edition there are also cards called Bus Tickets. Bus Tickets work in conjunction with the Speed Die which was invented by Winning Moves! We love Winning Moves and get most of our games from them. I’ll tell you more about them later on. You get Bus Tickets from rolling the Speed Die and by landing on the Bus Ticket spaces.
You have properties so of course this game brings Title Deeds. When we compared these Title Deeds to the Classic edition ones they are slimmer but still have all the information you need.
Just like in the Classic edition you get houses and hotels. But what we loved about the MEGA edition is that it also comes with Skyscrapers and Train Depots. The Train Depot is something you can add to the railroads if you own them and that will double the rent of the railroad. To be able to add a Skyscraper to your properties you need to already have houses and hotels on them. The Skyscrapers will increase the amount of your property significantly.
The Speed Die
You of course get your silver-tone tokens, and dice. However there is a Speed Die in this game that makes game play quicker. The Speed Die is rolled along with the other two regular dice. It helps moves the game along quicker because you can get Bus Tickets which let you move up in spaces. You can roll a Mr. Monopoly which let’s you move to the next property after completing your regular turn. It also has a (1) dot and a (2) dots, if you roll any of these you add them to the total of the other dice. If you happen to roll three of a kind then you get to move to any space on the game board.
As you can see there are many really neat features in the Monopoly MEGA Edition that make this a really fun game! We really enjoy it and play it at least a couple times a week.
You can get this great game on Amazon and of course on Winning Moves!
