Best Developmentally Appropriate Toys For Kids
Now that summer time is here and my boys are out of school, I look for toys that will keep them entertained. Yes I let them play on their tablets. But I don’t want them glued to them all day. That’s why I want to share with you this list of what I think are the best developmentally appropriate toys for kids.
Let’s take a look at one that is great for ages birth to 1 year.
The Yookidoo Gymotion Activity Musical Robo Playland is the ultimate activity mat. With three different stages, this mat works hard to keep baby entertained. Stage one is all about reaching and focusing as baby grasps for the motorized mobile. Stage two? Tummy time! A puppy dog pillow keeps baby propped up. By the time baby can sit up and crawl, staying put will still be fun; a robot slides back and forth on a track, helping to hold attention and hone fine motor skills. Turn on two different modes of 10-minute continuous music. For Birth +. MSRP: $74.95. Available online at Amazon.
Next up is one great for ages 2 years +.
Children will have a blast using an easy-to-hold wrench to build with the NEW Count & Build TotBot™ from Learning Resources. Using fine motor skills, they will twist color, shape, and number pieces (1–5) into place. Skill Development includes: Color recognition, Shape recognition, Number recognition, Counting, Numerical order, Fine motor skills, Problem solving, Eye-hand coordination, Sequential thought, and Motor planning. MSRP: $16.99. Available online at Amazon.
Now let’s look at one for ages 3 years +.
The PlayTape from InRoad Toys happens to be one of Matias’ favorite toys. He has tons of toy cars and loves building his own roads and racetracks. I like that it’s easy to remove and doesn’t mess up my hardwood floors. Matias also likes that they also have PlayTape curves, so making roads anyway he wants is easy.
With award-winning PlayTape from InRoad Toys, kids can instantly create roads and rails for toy vehicle play anytime, anywhere! Just unroll, stick, and drive!
It’s hours of entertainment on a single roll. PlayTape sticks to any flat surface and is easy to tear by hand and reposition. It peels up without any residue and is recyclable, so cleaning up is a snap. Take PlayTape anywhere – in your pocket or purse – and let your child turn imagination into reality. 100% Made in the USA. Ages 3+. U.S. MSRP: $3.97 and up. Available at Amazon.
Now how about one for ages 5-6 years.
The Hot Dots Jr. Is another great toy that Matias likes to play with. Now that he has started reading in kindergarten, this will help him keep on reading. He loves it when he hears the pen’s sounds and sees the lights that he has the right answer.
With the Hot Dots Jr. Succeeding in School with Highlights Set from Educational Insights, children can practice the skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and first grade! This interactive and multi-subject set reinforces the fundamentals and prepare kids for success. Set includes skill specific lessons, a parent guide, and Ollie—the Talking, Teaching Owl™ pen that provides silly sounds, lights, and encouraging feedback little ones love. For ages 5-6 years. MSRP: $39.99. Available online at Amazon.
Hope this list helps you find toys to keep your little ones happy this summer.
