I have one of my boys in braces and it looks like the youngest will also need them. It really isn’t that big of a surprise since I had braces and my boys have inherited my teeth.
I didn’t get my braces until I was in my early 20’s, mainly because my mom didn’t make me see an orthodontist. And once I was an adult I didn’t get them because I didn’t have dental insurance for a while. Anyway I was always under the impression that kids needed to either have all their adult teeth in or a dentist needed to refer them to an orthodontist.
This book taught me that you don’t need to wait for any of those things. In this book Dr. Steven J. Moravec recommends addressing orthodontic issues as early as age seven (and sometimes much younger), when jaw bones are more pliable and teeth are still coming in. My youngest is 7 and actually had his 6 month cleaning appointment two days ago. So on the way out while making his next cleaning appointment I also made one for a consult with the orthodontist.
In this book I also learned about all the different treatment options that are available. There’s so much out there that I wasn’t aware of. This book truly is a great guide to the latest in orthodontic care.

My niece and nephews are approaching the age when braces might come into the picture. This book might be helpful to their parents. Goodness knows expert advice is needed to navigate those years.
