Let’s Craft For A Cause – Making Capes with FamilyFun!

My silly little gang and I love helping out and giving back! So when FamilyFun Magazine asked us if we wanted to “craft for a cause” and make capes we jumped at the chance. FamilyFun and two great organizations – generationOn and Enchanted Makeovers – are coming together to invite readers to craft fun, homemade superhero capes for children living in shelters.

Why capes? Enchanted Makeovers founder, Terry Grahl, explains that it’s not just because they lend themselves to imaginative play, but also because they remind kids that they don’t have to wait for a superhero…they can be one! Hand-crafted capes show that someone truly does care, and the symbol instills empowerment and confidence in children who need it most.

It is super easy and super fun to make capes and help put smiles on little faces. FamilyFun provided everything we needed to make the capes. However everything you need is super easy to find at your local craft store or supercenter.

Items to make capes

Here’s the list of what you need.

What I liked most about making these capes was that there was no sewing involved! With the imagination that my boys have sky is the limit to make them! We had tons of fun choosing the colors that we wanted for the capes we were making. Then designing our own emblems! Although we didn’t have to because FamilyFun has a party kit that includes Capes for Kids Party PlannerSimple Cape TemplateEmblem TemplateShark-inator TemplateSuper Star TemplateFire Power Template; Craft Styling by Elizabeth MacLennan.

Once our capes were done we packed them up and mailed them to Enchanted Makeovers. Before mailing them out, the boys had to try them on to take pictures. Here are what our capes looked like!

I think this is a great idea!! My grandson insists on his own cape quite often. A fun idea and with no sewing involved the capes will be first rate.
