Innovative Kitchen Storage Ideas

The kitchen is the hub of every house. It serves as a catch-all for mail, lunchboxes, and coats after long days at work or school. It’s where preparation for the day and every meal happens. It’s where your loved ones gather to enjoy a family dinner. Because it’s so central to your home’s activity, the kitchen can become utter chaos without creative storage solutions. Thankfully, Modernize has a few ideas for keeping the most overworked room of your house organized and stylish in the midst of your busy life.

Transparent Cabinets

Transparent cabinets, whether opaque or clear glass, are a growing trend. They break up the boring look of plain wooden cabinetry and allow you to show off your best dishes. But they have organizational advantages too—if you and your guests can see inside the cabinets, you’ll be more motivated to keep them perfectly clean and straight. Forget the barrage of plastic cups threatening to fall on you every time you open a cabinet. Glass cabinets can also make cups and dishes easier for guests to locate.

Open Shelving

Because the kitchen is such a versatile space, it makes sense to use storage unexpectedly. Fill an island shelf with riveting reads for guests seated at the bar to enjoy. Use a kitchen shelf to store cookbooks so you don’t have to dig Granny’s recipe cards out from the back of the pantry next time you’re feeling nostalgic. Open shelving is a great way to bring personality to your kitchen’s appearance while making needed items more accessible.

Roll-Out Storage

There’s nothing that slows down a cooking or baking endeavor like having to dig through cabinets and drawers to find all the right spices, dishes, or utensils to get the job done. The hunt leaves everything messy and even harder to find next time around. One of the best solutions to this is to implement rolling or sliding storage. Install stacked trays on tracks in your cabinets for pots and pans you use often. Store your spices on sliding racks, and if you can, opt for a roll-out cutting board. You’ll be chopping time off your meal prep as deftly as you chop veggies.

Hanging Dish Storage

One of the handiest organizational solutions also brings the most character into your kitchen. Hanging pots, pans, coffee mugs, or wineglasses gets them up and out of the way, and also makes your kitchen appear more spacious. But it also makes the room more dynamic. Use hanging dishes as a way to bring a pop of color to a neutral kitchen, or a hanging pot rack as way to enhance the beauty of your overhead light fixture.

Some of us don’t have the space for an elaborate mini bar, but there are still ways to economize your kitchen for bar storage. Use open shelving divided diagonally to securely store wine bottles and keep them in easy reach. Suspend wineglasses from the underside of your cabinets to save space and add an air of sophistication.

Thanks Silvie, this has really got me thinking about the best layout/design for my kitchen. I especially like the idea of hanging my pans. Not only will it save space, it will also help keep my pans damage free for longer. I.e. the non-stick surface can wear away when you stack them

I love those storage ideas! The kitchen is the place that never have enough space to store all the things we have. In my new kitchen I am going to implement some of the mentioned ideas:)
