Yacon Syrup is a sugar substitute.

I had heard of Yacon syrup but I hadn’t tried it. So I was excited to try it out. It has a syrupy consistency and the smell is very strong. It’s suggested use is: As a dietary supplement take 1 teaspoon 3 times a day before meals. Yacon Syrup can be used as a sweetener in tea/coffee and other beverages. You can also add it on pancakes or other liquid mixes. Keep in mind that heating yacon syrup to higher temperatures (as in baking) can affect some of its beneficial properties. To maximize its benefits, don’t heat it above 70° C, though adding it to hot drinks like coffee or tea should be fine. So I tried a teaspoon, OMG I can’t take it straight up light that as it leaves a very bitter aftertaste. So next up was in a cup of coffee and it definitely gave it a weird taste. So I went online to the Simple Health website and found recipes to try it in.

One of the recipes I tried was their Roasted Sweet Potatoes recipe and it was delicious! So I absolutely recommend it as a sweetener substitute in cooking. I’m sure there are people who won’t mind the strong taste and can tolerate the aftertaste when taking it pure. But it was just too strong for my taste.
