VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus Review & Giveaway!

When I was recently contacted to test out the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus I was super excited. My boys are definitely techies and the 3 year old even more than the older boys. The boys always see me working either on my cell phone or my tablet and they keep asking for either one. I believe my boys are way too young for cell phones, so I love that the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus gives them a chance to have a tablet of their very own.

VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus Learning Tablet (Ages 3-9 years; MSRP $79.99)

  • InnoTab 3S Plus is a value-packed 5” tablet that features a rechargeable battery power pack so you don’t need to worry about constantly purchasing batteries, a cost that really adds up.
  • This tablet offers access to more than 800 educator-endorsed, age and stage appropriate cartridges, software and apps that can be purchased and downloaded from VTech®’s Learning Lodge app store.
  •  InnoTab 3S Plus features Wi-Fi and comes with 16 apps, including free access to an enhanced 2nd generation of VTech® Premium Kid Connect, a tablet-to-mobile communication app that lets kids communicate in real time and exchange voice and text messages, photos, drawings and fun stickers with their parents’ smartphones.
  • New enhanced Kid Connect features include a parent-controlled group chat and a fun multi-player game, which will be available in the fall.
  •  Children will also love taking photos using the 180° rotating camera with over 55 special effects and using the video recorder to make movies. They can even import and listen to their own MP3s with the music player.

Our Experience:

One of the features that both the boys and I liked was the ability to create individual accounts. When you power up the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus you are prompted to select a user. And for Matias that can’t read yet it helps that the user accounts also have a picture. This feature is a HUGE deal in many ways. For starters this saves their progress in games, making it easy for them to continue playing. This also helps because now there’s no more arguing over playing someone else’s game. For me it helps that I can see in the Learning Lodge each ones individual progress.

There are over 350 education games, e-books, music, videos all specifically designed for your children’s age. You can either buy and download these games online or also use cartridges. The boys loved exploring around the Learning Lodge and seeing all the wonderful things available to them.  The boys liked that in a few of the games they can use the tilt-sensor. It was great to see their enthusiasm grow when the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus responded to the tilting or shaking motion in the game.

Matias especially liked that there is a camera on the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus, he has so much fun playing with it. He loves making videos and taking pictures. The only downside to the camera is that you have to take the pictures in a well lit room or outside otherwise the images are to dark to see. It would be awesome if VTech® installed a flash.

Aaron & Diego who are 7 & 9 usually like to borrow my cell phone or tablet to play games online. Even though I do let them I’m always worried that they will come across something not kid friendly. Which is why I love the kid-safe Wi-Fi, where they can explore VTech® and parent approved websites. There are password protected parental controls that allow parents to add a trusted website. Now my boys can safely go online, use sites that I have pre-approved, all on their OWN device. I also really liked the Kid-Connect feature. In this feature the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus can communicate via the Wi-Fi with my cell. All I had to do was download the app on my phone. I love getting stickers and texts from the boys.

The boys loved all the games and I loved how much they learned while they were playing them. Needless to say they logged in many hours of rigorous “testing” with the fun VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus. So the rechargeable batteries were a big hit in this household! Battery life is great too, The boys can each play for hours and all I have to do is charge it overnight.

My boys loved the VTech® InnoTab® 3S Plus. It’s a great learning tablet which I’d recommend to anyone with children who are interested in electronic learning.

I bought one of the older innotabs, but never actually gave it to my son. Instead he just plays on my tablet or phone, and I sold the innotab on! #hobnob
